[Chapter V] Chaos Vortex Weapons

For unknown reasons portals are appearing in Silverspring which have no connection to any event or content that is already known in Runes of Magic. The mobs "Darkwater Monstrosity" and "Gluttonous Darkwater Aberration" have never been seen before. Darkwater Monstrosity can be level 20, 30, 40 and 50, Gluttonous Darkwater Aberration is a level 60 mob. Both drop the "Crystal Shard", which seems to be very interesting. This is the description:

  • These shards are dropped by monsters created by the Darkwater Source. Collect 5 of these shards to make a full crystal.
(Hand these shards to Parson or Falakens to exchange for a Darkwater Crystal.)

But it does not explain what these Shards are used or needed for, instead it leaves us with even more questions. Worldsearch lists the NPC's Parson (30,6/38) and Falakens (43,6/22,8) but they are not where they are supposed to be in Varanas, Lower City West and East.

This is all the information that's currently available in game, some more questions can be answered from the data.

We'll start with the dialogues of the NPC's Bolak and Parson. Bolak, who will later stand directly next to Parson, explains the background a bit:

  • Can the weapon designs in the Great Mage Letters ever be built?
  • This problem isn't so daunting. It's possible to build the weapon designs in the Great Mage Letters. Judging from the records, the original designer's talent wasn't so great as to leave us baffled. Perhaps a common craftsman couldn't pick up a copy of the Great Mage Letters and build the designs, but this is more owing to the fact that there aren't any of the materials like this around.
  • But in actual fact there are. This thing here has been named the darkwater crystal.
  • Is this thing hard to obtain?
  • Very rare indeed, but believe it or not, it's actually obtained from creatures. It seems to stem from some type disease that afflicts creatures, though no one knows what causes it.
  • I once purchased a few darkwater crystals on the black market, but their grade and quality were terribly low. Yet if they used to exist as they were written of in the Great Mage Letters, then I believe that they're still out there somewhere in our present world.

In order to keep the news at least a bit shorter, we'll make a cut here regarding the story and tend directly to the core of it: building the weapons. Darkwater Crystal is one of the ingredients needed to create them according to Bolak.

In our previous news  Boss-Drops in Chaos Vortex: Evil we already listed another ingredient: the Prime Resonator Crystal. Meanwhile Parson tells us what else is needed for the weapons:

  • Forging Chaos Vortex series weapons requires the raw materials listed below. Once you confirm that you have all the required materials, you may begin forging. While you do not require a large amount of materials, they are not easy to obtain. Consider it an accomplishment if you do!

    5 Mauve Crystals
    10 Darkwater Crystals
    1 Prime Resonator Crystal
    1 Palogis Spine

Now we know about two of the needed ingredients but they are not available in the quality we need them to be. Parson has the solution:

  • Fuse 30 Mauve Crystal Shards to obtain 1 Mauve Crystal.
  • Fuse 5 Crystal Shards to obtain 1 Darkwater Crystal.

Mauve Crystal Shard is part of the Wish Reward Package, a reward for some new quests. Palogis Spine is as the name already suggests a drop from Palogis, one of the bosses in Chaos Vortex: Evil. If you have collected all the materials, Parson forges the weapon for a fee of 50,000 Gold. The created weapon depends on the the Prime Resonator Crystal, which exists in 13 different types, one for each weapon. Finally you'll get one of the Chaos Vortex-weapons:

The weapons exist twice in the database, one time showing the following message on their tooltips:

  • This item cannot be refined. Arcane Transmutor features cannot be used, and a Rune Driller cannot be used., This item will disappear after leaving this zone

These versions of the weapons are already Tier 10 and plussed up to +16. Those. The missing durability is explained here:

  • We have prepared reserve weapons, but they only exist in the Chaos Vortex. Because we are short of a stabilizing agent, Prime Resonator Crystals, the other raw materials are unable to exist in a stable state.
In the Chaos Vortex, evil intentions are transformed into physical entities. There is Periehr, the manifestation of anger, Sormyn, the manifestation of transience, and Gorlo, the manifestation of gluttony. They are able to use their abilities to transform their surroundings, relying on the power of Prime Resonator Crystals.
(Note: Prime Resonator Crystals can only be obtained when the Chaos Vortex is open.)

The last sentence implies that Chaos Vortex will not be permanently available but as of now there is no information how and when it would open.

This should at least answer the questions about the Crystal Shard items dropped by the mobs that recently showed up.
